A Study on Informal Learning and Slum Tourism in South Africa using User Generated Content
This 10-months BA skill acquisition award project investigates the social meaning shared by tourists who decided to undertake a specific kind of alternative tourism: slum tourism. The project focuses User Generated Content (text and pictures) shared on two social platforms - Tripadvisor and Flickr.
The mentor of the project is Dr. Mauro Sarrica, Adjunct Professor at Sapienza University - Rome. The applicant is Dr. Isabella Rega, Senior Lecturer at Bournemouth University.
Bournemouth University funded two sisters projects, to enable the researchers to gain a global picture on the phenomenon: a study on India and a study on Brazil, the other two traditional countries where slum tourism takes place.
