Steve Connolly

Dr. Steve Connolly joined CEMP as a Visiting Fellow in November 2015 and is a Lecturer at the University of Bedfordshire where he teaches in the Department of Teacher Education. Prior to this he worked in a range of London secondary schools for over fifteen years, including a five year spell as a Director of Specialism in a Visual and Media Arts College.

Steve’s PhD focused on explaining learning progression in secondary school video production and he continues to be interested in the way that both teaching and learning are facilitated in the media classroom, though more recently his research work has focused on questions of creativity and the connections between media education and social inclusion, particularly in the area of school based vocational courses. He has also recently concluded a period as Research Associate on the Story Engine Project – a collaboration between DARE and the Ministry of Stories looking at developing online platforms for teaching creative writing – and this work connects with his current teaching which focuses on theoretical perspectives on literacies, both new and old.
