ABOUT

MEDIA EDUCATION SUMMIT

The 8th Media Education Summit brings together a global network of media educators, scholars and researchers to share research, pedagogy and innovation on all aspects of media education and media in education.

The Summit is convened annually by the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice CEMP and hosted this year by Emerson College, Boston, US. Emerson is the home of the Engagement Lab. The Boston Summit incorporates the 2015 Media Literacy Research Symposium.

Presenters will be invited to submit their work to a special editions of the Media Education Research Journal (MERJ) and the Journal of Media Literacy Education (JMLE).

YOUTH MEDIA EDUCATION SUMMIT

Youth are an integral part of the media education field and should hold a respected presence within academic convenings addressing topics pertinent to their lived experiences and futures. The annual Youth Media Education Summit (YMES) therefore invites young people to take part in the larger summit experience and to authentically participate and collaborate with media education scholars and practitioners.

contributions open until August 31

Contributions are invited from creative and media educators, learning technologists and those in education support roles, in all sectors and contexts.

There are three forms of presentation this year: workshop/roundtable; full conference papers and MERJ/JMLE conversations.

WORKSHOP / ROUNDTABLE

MES2015 invites groups of participants to run practical workshops on a theme related to all aspects of media education. We would also welcome groups from education or policy-making organisations to convene a themed roundtable. We also welcome groups made up of Early Career Researchers (ECRs) to present new/ongoing work and new thinking around a common linking theme.

Please refer to this template to submit your contribution.

CONFERENCE PAPERS

MES2015 invites presentations of original pedagogic / educational research in the broad fields of creative, arts and media education. These papers should share the outcomes of a research / practitioner enquiry, raising questions for the audience to discuss.

MERJ/JMLE CONVERSATIONS

This strand of the conference offers a different platform for the exchange of research, practice and innovation from all aspects of media education. Presenters are asked to provide some preparatory material (of any kind) for delegates to access before the conference via the conference website.

During the session, presenters briefly summarise the key themes and questions arising from the material, followed by a chaired seminar-style discussion. Contributors to this strand are invited to write-up and submit their work to the Media Education Research Journal or the Journal of Media Literacy Education for a special double-issue following the Summit.
